History Of International Yoga Day

On International Yoga Day, people all over the world are ready with their yoga mats but they do not aware about history of Yoga. Yoga is an ancient practice that arises around 5,000 years ago in India. Initially Yoga was developed as a way to interconnect the mind, body and soul. Gradually this practice becomes popular in the west. At a point it becomes popular as an exercise and relaxation method.

Who Introduced Idea For International Yoga Day?

The idea of International Yoga Day was firstly introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 27, 2014. The reason to choose June 21 as International Yoga Day is that it is the Summer Solstice. In these day mostly the sun out of every other day of the year. Internationally, it received support from 177 nations. This is the highest number of co-sponsors for any UN resolution. Finally the moment come and June 21 is selected as the International Yoga Day. On June 21, 2015, around 36,000 people, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other high-profile political figures from all around the world, performed 21 asanas (yoga postures) for 35 minutes in New Delhi on first International Yoga Day. From that day this day has been celebrated around the globe ever since.

Flexibility is necessary for physical health. Yoga is helpful for improving flexibility in adults age like 65 and older. Reduced flexibility is a natural part of aging, and a 2019 study found that yoga both slowed down loss and improved flexibility in older adults.

Yoga helps to give proper sleep. Research shows that a continuous bedtime yoga routine helps in the right mindset and prepare our body to fall asleep and stay asleep.
